The small town of Indian Head is located in southwestern Maryland, in Charles County. Incorporated in 1920, Indian Head is home to a current population nearing 4,000 people, covering a land area of just 1.2 square miles.
Located between the Potomac River and Mattawoman Creek, Indian Head has long been the site of a naval base specializing in gun and rocket propellants. It was a thriving small town during World War II and through the late 1960s. An experimental stage theater recently opened in town, in addition to the Indian Head Center for the Arts and a new community center building. Further efforts are underway to revitalize Indian Head.
